What is Health?

To help physicians make health care more patient centred, we can see from this perspective health includes:

  • but is more than how your patient feels
  • what your patient can do
  • knowing your patient’s limits
  • assisting your patient in making the right decisions

Medical science has given each of us the opportunity to live better & longer. But, it's our job to assist our patient’s in making the right health decisions.

Just in the last 10 years, remarkable advances in medical sciences have given us chances our grandparents never dreamed of. A baby born today will likely be active & vigorous well into his or her 80s & beyond! And today, each of us is better equipped to make informed decisions to improve our quality of life.

Your patient’s choices can be as simple as setting time aside for a brisk 30-minute walk 3 times-a-week, including more fruits & vegetables in their diet or scheduling annual check-ups with their doctor.

Even finding the right medication to alleviate pain can be a step to better quality of life.

Most importantly, it's never too late...or too early to commit to a healthier life.

Patients don't have to win a triathlon, be a cover girl on a popular magazine or have the body of a health club addict to be healthy. Good health can come in all shapes & sizes. Good health is a fusion of mind, body and spirit. Effective health care is about assisting your patient in taking that first step in gaining control of their lives.
